Dreams: God's End-Time Language, Part 2

 Dreaming of Snakes

God speaks through dreams today. In Acts chapter 2, we read that they will increase, therefore it’s a good idea to understand what dreams are and how God speaks through dreams.

Dreams are like parables. A parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels. Dreams are night parables where God will use symbols to mean different things. One of the main things to understand about interpreting dreams is the issue of understanding symbols. How do we interpret one symbol versus another?

Nothing should replace the Holy Spirit and scripture in the search and meaning of our dreams and visions. We always want to refer to scripture first.  If it’s not in scripture, then we look at the characteristics and functionality of the symbol to be able to understand what it is representing. But first, we must consult scripture and God about our dreams by asking Him – Why and how He uses a particular symbol?

As believers and followers of Christ, we must look to scripture to be able to understand and interpret our dreams about snakes. How God uses them in scripture will give us clues as to how he uses them to speak to us in our dreams.

There are also some dreams that God is speaking to us that we may not receive the interpretation for years. As we grow in God, the interpretation will eventually come. SO, don’t lose sleep or stress about a dream you have searched out and still don’t understand. Be at peace. God knows your need and knows where you are. Continue to go after Him for the interpretation, but do not stress if it doesn’t come in the time you determine it should.

Dreams are more symbolic than they are literal. In a context where you are dreaming of snakes, it’s not necessarily talking about an actual snake (though that could be the case).

Snakes in the Bible speak of evil spirits and demonic forces.

If you go back to the beginning and look at Genesis it was a snake that deceived Adam and Eve.

We can deduce that snakes in our dreams are intellectual lies and demonic spirits that will lie to us about a specific situation, it’s basically a representation of a demonic lie. They are strongholds, they are things the enemy tells us that we believe that cause destruction and is driven by a demonic spirit.

In reference to dreaming about snakes, the first place we need to look is in the garden in Eden. This is the first place a serpent is mentioned in scripture. This is where we see the devil deceiving Eve. The serpent was in the garden, and we see that the first thing he does is deceive, beguile, lie. We also see that the serpent is cursed by God. This is our first clue about serpents/snakes that we find in scripture. From the beginning, we see the serpent, which is a snake, which is Satan who is the father of lies.

What does the Bible say about snakes?

Genesis 3: 1; 13 & 14 (KJV)

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.”

“And the Lord God said unto the woman, what is it that thou has done? And the woman said, the serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field.

Psalm 58:3-4 (KJV)

The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they are born, speaking liesTheir poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear;

Psalm 140:2-4

Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.

They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.

Eccl. 10:11

Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment, and a babbler is no better.

Romans 3:13

Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues, they have used deceitthe poison of asps is under their lips:

ASP: a small southern European viper with an upturned snout.

    • another term for Egyptian cobra.

From these scriptures, we see this pattern of how God uses a serpent or a snake to denote someone or a demonic spirit who speaks lies about or to us.

What do you do when you dream about snakes?

The best thing to do is to ask the Lord the following questions:

            1. What lie(s) have I believed?

            2. What is the truth in that area? The only way to be healed from deception is by seeking truth.

In the natural snakes are basically a ‘Long TAIL’. When we consider that, we can also say that it’s a ‘Long TALE’ (a story that’s being stretched, a fabrication, stretching of the truth).

Revelation 9:19 (KJV) – “For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were unto serpents, and had heads, and with them, they do hurt.

If you see a snake in a tree

Trees in scripture represent leadership. If you see a snake in a tree, what that’s referring to is a leader in your vicinity that is operating under a specific demonic spirit. If you see that the snake is a specific color that means something else as well.

If you see a snake chasing you

A snake chasing you is referring to a lie the enemy is harassing you with. Don’t believe the lie, whatever that lie may be. Ask the Lord what lie you are believing that’s causing you incredible anguish. The Lord will reveal it to you. He is good, if he allowed you to dream about it, he will reveal and provide the answers. He is for you and not against you. He wants you to overcome the lies of the enemy. If He is revealing this to you it is because He wants you to be free from that lie. Ask Him to reveal the truth and believe it. You can also find what the Bible says about that situation and receive it to replace the lie.

What could the lies be?

It could be a lie about who you are in Christ. It could be many different things, so you definitely want to search it out and ask the Lord about it.

If the snake hasn’t bitten you or come in contact with you, it means that that lie hasn’t penetrated your body or who you are. The poison of that lie has not been injected into you. If you just see the snake, it means that you are recognizing that it is there, but it may or may not have affected you in any way.

If you have a dream of a snake coming after you trying to bite you or it does actually bite you, that dream is speaking about someone who is speaking lies about you. If it bites you, it can also be speaking to a lie that you have believed will have a lasting impact on your life. The lie has already been injected into your body and you have believed it and it is affecting you. This means you are now being hurt and affected by the deception or the lie. You will need to pay attention to where you were bitten by the snake in the dream. Each location will have its own significance and symbology. For example, if you are bitten on your foot, then it could symbolize a lie that will affect your walk.

If you see a snake that is very long, maybe even blocks long. The length could be speaking to time. It is speaking to a lie that will harass you for a long period of time depending on how long the snake is. For instance, if the snake appears to be seven blocks long, that’s speaking to a lie that will harass you for seven days, weeks, or could symbolize even seven years. Seek the Lord and allow Him to show you how long.

If you dream of a snake that turns around and eats itself, God is revealing concerning a lie that will not stand. He is revealing to you that there is a lie that’s been harassing you, but it will eat its own words and will not have a lasting impact on your life.

If you see several small snakes, its generally speaking about people gossiping/lying about you behind your back

Seeing a two-headed snake is speaking concerning a lie that is being influenced by two different/separate demonic spirits.

Context has everything to do with what symbols may mean in a dream. For example:

Do you own the snake in your dream?

If it is your snake or the snake is in your house, it is saying that you have believed the lie and it is actually part of what you are believing. It’s not just in the environment, but you have received it (like Adam and Eve).

Is it your pet snake in your dream?

This is not a good thing. You don’t want a pet snake in a dream. That means that you have accepted this deception and now you think of it as good. You are now feeding it; have given it a home and you are even protecting it. You are feeding this lie and you need to deal with it immediately.

Is it somebody else’s snake in the dream?

If the snake is in somebody else’s house, then it is a deception that they are believing, that possibly is affecting you or harming you or you are noticing it – it’s being revealed to you.

Killing snakes in your dreams:

If you see yourself killing a snake in a dream this is a great dream. It is referring to overcoming the attack from the enemy. The enemy who has either come against you with an intellectual lie or against you using someone that’s operating under a demonic spirit. The dream is revealing to you that you recognized it and you killed it. You did not allow it to take hold in your life. So, if you dreamed of killing a snake in your dream, congratulations that is a great dream. This is the type of dream you want to dream about snakes. It’s a good thing.

There can be different colored snakes. Colors in Scripture are very significant, therefore, different colored snakes would mean different things.

Red- could be symbolic of rage and danger

Green- could be symbolic of envy (i.e., green with envy)

Yellow- could be symbolic of pride (Intellectual pride & Greed)

White- could be symbolic of a religious spirit

Blue- could be symbolic of depression (i.e., feeling blue)

Depending on the color of the snake you can understand the type of lie you have believed or what the enemy is doing.

If you see a snake that’s actually changing colors that’s referring to a demonic spirit that is operating under a façade. For example, if you see a brown snake that changes its color to red in the dream. In the negative context, brown is symbolic of false humility and red speaks to anger. Therefore, we can discern that a demonic spirit is putting on a façade of false humility, but it is being propelled or influenced by anger.

You may also want to take into consideration the type of snake you saw in your dream.

Were you able to identify the snake, if so, what type is it? Why would God reveal a cobra and not a rattlesnake? These are questions to consider in order to receive a more effective interpretation. God is saying something in all of it.

If it is a boa constrictor- the characteristic of a boa constrictor is that it kills you by squeezing the life out of you. In a dream, it could mean that this lie wants to squeeze the life out of you. This lie could be suffocating you and will try to do so until the point of death. It’s choking out the life that you have been given.

The Cobra: it spits venom in the eyes, therefore that could symbolize that there is a lie that is trying to affect what you see or your ability to see things in the spirit.

Snake dreams are most often negative, almost always. However, there is an exception in scripture. If you consider what happened to the Israelites when they were in the wilderness, as they were grumbling and complaining the Lord sent these fiery serpents into their midst that would bite them, and people began to die from the bites of these snakes. They tried to figure out what they should do, and Moses cries out to God, and God instructs him to put up a bronze serpent and place it where people can see it, and as people look at this bronze serpent then they will be healed (Numbers 21). Jesus compared Himself to this bronzed serpent (John 3:14). Jesus compared His own purpose with that of the bronze serpent. The serpent lifted up in the wilderness was God’s chosen way to provide natural healing; Jesus, lifted up on the cross is now God’s way of healing us spiritually of our sins and deception of Satan.

The snake may be allowed to bite you, but it could be that as the Israelites in the wilderness that God will be providing a way of rescue if you would accept it

Jesus is the ultimate remedy for the lies and is the one who can truly heal the devastating bites (the lies and deception we believe or that is said about us). Whoever believes in Jesus will not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

Revelation 20:2-3

“And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him up a thousand years.” And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years be fulfilled: and after that, he must be loosed for a season.

Note that in the book of Revelation, the snake in its old age is a dragon. If we do not deal with what is being revealed in our dreams concerning the snake, the deceptions and lies we believe, they will grow and become unmanageable. They will grow into an uncontrollable dragon that will require divine supernatural intervention to stop.

Most important concerning your dreams- Seek GOD continually for the purest revelation and interpretation. After all, He is the only one that knows all.

  1. Wow. Thanks. Love reading you bloggers about dreams. Thanks you help me to understand the dream I once had. "To God be the Glory." Like you said the Holy Spirit is our main teacher, however, I believe in God's divine connection as well. God connects people together for HIS purpose. I will love to connect with you, IF that be God's will. Thanks again.
